My K-Motion experiment

My K-Motion spring experiment!!

3 years ago I did a set of BBC cylinder heads for a 545 bracket style engine. We used a set of K1000H's. The plan was to look at the springs after a season. He sent the heads back and I checked everything out. I get the heads back after 400 passes yesterday.

Here is the AVERAGE of all 16 springs! 250@2.000/815@1.200 after 3 years and 400 passes! THE KEY IS IN RETAINER CLEARANCE! .835 lift with .085 to bind. 7800 RPM through lights

Are the springs going to be reused?

Thats a good set of springs. I bet they have a lot more life in them. If at 1 year 1 spring was weak he probably would have replaced the whole set, 15 good springs retired by 1 bad one. He could put a new set on for this year and have a bad one in there...sort of the risks we take sometimes.

I agree. He just felt for $275 he wanted the piece of mind.

THE KEY IS IN RETAINER CLEARANCE!

Hi Chad
No one asked so I will, do you fit the spring to the retainer snug or allow some clearance?
thanks

Clearance!!! Like when you turn the spring upside down the retainer falls off.

I try to use the K-Motion titanium retainer when I use their spring.

Chad, what is your thoughts on their newer M500 springs? I like the 1.500 diameter...

Thanks

Hey Chad, do you use locaters more or cups? I tend to use cups whenever I can, but I've always wondered if cups actually help the spring work better than locaters...just curious. Happy New Year!

I'll use a locator if it fits like the retainer, loose. If not, I'll use a cup.
